To start with, this first part was found in the article Rabies Death Theory. I found that Poe may have died of rabies encephalits. Physicians thought Poe had contracted rabies from his cat, Caterina. But at the time, there was no vaccine available for pets. The vaccine could've help physicians in figuring out if Poe had gotten the rabies from his pet cat.
This second part of information was found in the article If On;y Poe Has Succeeded When He Said Nevermore to Drink. A doctor at Maryland University Madical Center thinks that Poe did die from rabies due to animal infection and not alcholism. Before his death, Poe was not found outside a Saloon on October 3, 1849. But 4 days later, he died. A statement clearly state's that Poe was not drunk! Dr. Benitez has a theory... due to small amounts of evidence, abite or scratch could have been it. During that time, rabies was known to causes and symptoms. Which included itching and other sensations that affected the entire limb or side of the body. They found that Caterina, Poe's cat, had no sign of rabies. But later died from starvation.
Poe had gone on a voage and returned. He returned and got some sleep. He later woke up with a pale face. Also he broke in sweat. Morgan had found him violently delirious. With the help of two nurse's was what it tool to keep him in bed. But Poe may have gotten too drunk to protect himself from wind and rain.
This last part was of course found int he last article. Edgar Allan Poe did NOT die drunk in a gutter in BAltimore, but rather had rabies. This was a study suggest found by the doctors. Poe was acting unusual and perspiring heavily and shouting at imaginary companions. The day after that, he did seem better. But hedid not remember been i'll. On his fourth day... and last day at the hospital, he was confused. Then he quieted down then soon died.
