How did Edgar Allan Poe die, i wonder. Apparently many other people wonder as well, as i sit here and read possible true and false accusations of Poe's death. In front of me i have four news paper articles, stating possible death scenario's including death by rabies, death by alcoholism and facts of life before deathwith no accusation at all.By the end of this essay of possible Poe death scenarios you will have hypothesized a hypothetical situation in which could explain his death.
I've read four newspaper articles: "Poe's Final Days", "Poe's death is rewritten as Case of Rabies Not Telltale Alcohol", "Rabies Death theory", and "If only Poe Succeeded When He Said Nevermore to Drink". All but one article claims Poe's death upon rabies. Would any one article ever be entirly correct? No, but in each story there is a certain truth, details that are very similar if not the same. For example, all the articles agree hat Poe wasn't feeling well, was taken to the hospital by himself or a family memberand was dead four days later.
However picking out the truth from each story wasn't difficult, it was deciding weather the cause of death was alcohol poising or rabies. Well you can't just choose one so read the following sentence. In the articles "Poe's Final Days" and "Poe's Death is Rewritten as a Case of Rabies Not Telltale Alcohol" Poe was said to be hallucinating and violent at times(rabie symptoms) and calm and perspiring alot at others(alcohol and rabies symptoms). The affects of alcohol can included rage(person dependant) and split or double vision but never hallucinations unless taken with drugs.
WAIT! Before you jump to a conclusion, reevaluate the situation. How can you possibly say alcohol poisining if you don't even know what it is? It is a condition in which you have consumed too much alcohol for your bodily organs, such as the liver,to flush out, in which case you may become deathly ill and possible die. What does the liver or kidneys shutting down have to do with rage and hallucinating? Rabies is a condition where swelling of the brain occures. The brain controlls the medulla oblongotta which if affected could cause rage being that it controlls our emotions. The cerebellum and cerebrum both controll process of thought and movement, each when affected could cause rapid rageful movement and hallucinations. So you tellme, was it Alcoholism or Rabies?

Ivonne Vasquez-Perez, Final Exam Essay
The Hero's Journey consists of three main stages: the Separation, the Initiation, and the Return. The calling, the threshold, and the descent make up the Separation. The abyss, the mentor, and the transformation make up the Initiation, while the creation makes up the Return. In the Separation the hero leaves home, and in the Initiation the hero finds a mentor and performs heroic deeds. In the Return the hero goes back to his home and/or family.
An example of Separation in the Odyssey is when Odysseus decides to go to the underworld to find Teiresias.Odysseus' calling was the need to get away from Circe. The threshold awas when he decided to leave after h erealized how much time he had spent there. Descent is the beginning of the journey into the unknown, Odysseus' descent was when he sacrificed all the animals to gain access to Teiresias in the underworld.
The Initiation is where the climax of the story is found, most of the action in a story takes place in the Initiation. The abyss is the unkown and it is very similar to the setting. In the Odyssey the abyss was the underworld as was the setting for the Jouney within a Journey. The mentor is self-exlanatory, it is a teacher or helper that aides the hero. In the transformation the hero undergoes a change by performing a heroic deed alone.
The Return has only one stage within it, the creation. The creation is the final stage and it is when the hero uses the wisdom and knowledge he acquired to create a better world or life for himself/herself. The hero can also use experiences he's gained from the journey to create a better world. In the Odyssey, Odysseus creates a better world for himself when he rids his home of all the suitors.
The Hero's Journey can be found anywhere in literature as well as in films. The Hero's Journey is the basis for any story and it is a useful tool in understanding a story. The Separation is the foundation of the story and it is the beginning of the Hero's Journey. The Initiation is the climbing action and the climax of the story. The Return is the conclusion, it wraps up a story and completes the Hero's Journey.

Daisy Simental Poe; Extra Credit
Many people have a different version of what they believe is the true story of the death of Edgar Allen Poe. Some people suggest Poe died from aclchol poisoning but more than half believe Poe died from the disease, Rabies. Even though he was found "drunk" four days before his death on the street with ratty clothes on, which most likely didn't belong to him.
On October 1849, Poe was in front of a bar on Lombard street half conscious and delirious. That day he was taken to the hospital and for his last reaming days he behaved strange. His doctor. Mr.Bentitez, said the following day of him checking in he was perspiring very heavily and shouting at people who weren't there. The following day he seemed better but oddly couldn't remember how he fell ill. By the fourth day of his stay, he was quit confused and very aggressive, but then quited down and pasted away.
The story's after his death, circled around tales of his, what some people say, mysterious death. As his cause of death was supposedly, Rabies, he didn't have a scratch or a bite on him! But yet, he had all the features of Encephalitic Rabies. And still people question his real cause of death, there is no real proof to any of these theory's. Edgar Allen Poe's death was a horrid one. But strange one as well, having no for sure cause of death, Rabies or maybe aclchol. some of us might know the real cause of death for Poe. MAY HE REST IN PEACE.

Daisy Vazquez & Final Exam Essay
To start with, this first part was found in the article Rabies Death Theory. I found that Poe may have died of rabies encephalits. Physicians thought Poe had contracted rabies from his cat, Caterina. But at the time, there was no vaccine available for pets. The vaccine could've help physicians in figuring out if Poe had gotten the rabies from his pet cat.
This second part of information was found in the article If On;y Poe Has Succeeded When He Said Nevermore to Drink. A doctor at Maryland University Madical Center thinks that Poe did die from rabies due to animal infection and not alcholism. Before his death, Poe was not found outside a Saloon on October 3, 1849. But 4 days later, he died. A statement clearly state's that Poe was not drunk! Dr. Benitez has a theory... due to small amounts of evidence, abite or scratch could have been it. During that time, rabies was known to causes and symptoms. Which included itching and other sensations that affected the entire limb or side of the body. They found that Caterina, Poe's cat, had no sign of rabies. But later died from starvation.
Poe had gone on a voage and returned. He returned and got some sleep. He later woke up with a pale face. Also he broke in sweat. Morgan had found him violently delirious. With the help of two nurse's was what it tool to keep him in bed. But Poe may have gotten too drunk to protect himself from wind and rain.
This last part was of course found int he last article. Edgar Allan Poe did NOT die drunk in a gutter in BAltimore, but rather had rabies. This was a study suggest found by the doctors. Poe was acting unusual and perspiring heavily and shouting at imaginary companions. The day after that, he did seem better. But hedid not remember been i'll. On his fourth day... and last day at the hospital, he was confused. Then he quieted down then soon died.
ADILENE MARTINEZ FINAL EXAM ESSAY
The daeth of Edgar Allan Poe was caused by rabies and not by alcoholic problems. To begin with a resarcher, Dr. R. Michael Benite, a cardiologist.says he had seen Poe in a October of 1849. he says he had Poe wearing somebody else's clothes, just outside a bar on Laambard Street. he says that Poe was not drunk. Dr. B benitez says that P oe was more of a maligned, but was not drunk.
The writter entered the Washington College Hospital deeply unconscious. by the next day Dr. B enitez said he was breathing heavily and and shoutin imagenary things and companions. On the third day Poe seemed to be better but could not remember anithing. Once again, his fourth day in the hospital Poe grew confused and aggresive. After a while he quieted down and died.
Before dying Poe refused alcohol and only dranked water with difficulty. Because of rabies he could only drink water and swallow painfully. T here was no evidence that Poe had been bitten by an animal. But Dr. Benitezbelieves the clothes he was wearing might of been the cuase of his death.Poes rabies symptoms showed up quickly and died four days after.
Mr. Jerome, one of Poe's friend says that Poe almost surelt did not died of alcohol poisoning or withdrawal. He says the writter was so sentive to alcohol that a glass of wine wine would him him violently ill for days. Poe had many problems with alcohol as a young man. this caused that byt he time he was in his fourties he almost always avoid alcohol, said Mr. Jerome.
S ome say the legend may have been siad his doctor, but he soon became temperance advoiate. and changed the details of Poes death. Jeff Jerome siad he heard dozens of tales but that "almost every who was fourth with that theory has no proof." Some versions say Poes unconscioud left hin under the steps of the baltimore museum before taken to the hospital.Other accounts place him on planks between two barrels outside a tavern of Lumbard Street. but most say he had been seen with others clothin.
Whos saying the truth? How did Edgar Allan Poe really died?!

Susan Tyrrell: Final Exam Essay
I think Moran did somthing to him. He probably gave him a drug to make him sick and forget what happend. Poe probably saw somthing that Moran did and was going to tell. So he beat him up and gave him the drug. I think he did somthing to one of his other relatives because only three of them showed up.
I think his wife knew what happend because she didn't report him missing. Moran gave him some more of the drug because he was getting better so he had to kill him. He left the room for a couple minutes to make everyone think that Poe was getting worse. Sence they think he was drunk Moran probably put alcohol down his throat. That would also have made him sick and make him forget what happend.
Moran was the first to show up to make sure he didn't get better. His act didn't have rabies so why would he have them. The cat died too so he probably killed the cat too. He also got sick by the rain. He had amonya, he probably died from that too.
When Poe wrote a letter to his aunt and mother-in-law he wrote about what happend so maybe they are dead too. Moran probably killed them because they found out. Or maybe he killed them first and that is what Poe had found out.
