ADILENE MARTINEZ FINAL EXAM ESSAY

The daeth of Edgar Allan Poe was caused by rabies and not by alcoholic problems. To begin with a resarcher, Dr. R. Michael Benite, a cardiologist.says he had seen Poe in a October of 1849. he says he had Poe wearing somebody else's clothes, just outside a bar on Laambard Street. he says that Poe was not drunk. Dr. B benitez says that P oe was more of a maligned, but was not drunk.

The writter entered the Washington College Hospital deeply unconscious. by the next day Dr. B enitez said he was breathing heavily and and shoutin imagenary things and companions. On the third day Poe seemed to be better but could not remember anithing. Once again, his fourth day in the hospital Poe grew confused and aggresive. After a while he quieted down and died.

Before dying Poe refused alcohol and only dranked water with difficulty. Because of rabies he could only drink water and swallow painfully. T here was no evidence that Poe had been bitten by an animal. But Dr. Benitezbelieves the clothes he was wearing might of been the cuase of his death.Poes rabies symptoms showed up quickly and died four days after.

Mr. Jerome, one of Poe's friend says that Poe almost surelt did not died of alcohol poisoning or withdrawal. He says the writter was so sentive to alcohol that a glass of wine wine would him him violently ill for days. Poe had many problems with alcohol as a young man. this caused that byt he time he was in his fourties he almost always avoid alcohol, said Mr. Jerome.

S ome say the legend may have been siad his doctor, but he soon became temperance advoiate. and changed the details of Poes death. Jeff Jerome siad he heard dozens of tales but that "almost every who was fourth with that theory has no proof." Some versions say Poes unconscioud left hin under the steps of the baltimore museum before taken to the hospital.Other accounts place him on planks between two barrels outside a tavern of Lumbard Street. but most say he had been seen with others clothin.

Whos saying the truth? How did Edgar Allan Poe really died?!
